Anika Thomas is a Boston-based violinist/violist and fiddler that specializes in traditional folk, Indie Pop and Musical Theater styles. Her passion and dedication to furthering her knowledge about music of the past and future, has lead to her recording and performing throughout the Boston Area. Anika is currently working towards her Bachelors of Music Degree at the Berklee College of Music where she is studying Recording and Production as well as Violin Performance with the American Roots Minor.
Since moving to Boston in 2021 Anika has recorded in over 200 studio sessions for indie artists and film scoring students. Her technical precision and soulful storytelling through her instrument brings the music to life. She has performed at major venues such as the Berklee Performance Center, the Red Room at Cafe 939, Lilly P's, Warehouse XI with artists such as Mia Asano, Joe Lovano, Greg Liszt, Bruce Molsky and many more.
Growing up in Seattle Washington, Anika was immersed in the classical music scene since the age of five. She performed as a member of many Youth Orchestras throughout the city and attended the Marrowstone Summer Intensive since the age of 8. Her enthusiasm for collaboration and playing new genres of music lead to her participation in the 2018 and 2019 Wintergrass Music Festival where she performed with renowned Bluegrass musicians Bela Fleck, Abigail Washburn, Mike Block, and the Krueger Brothers. In 2017 Anika also attended the Berklee College of Music's World Strings Summer Intensive, where Anika was learned and performed music from Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece and Romania.
In 2022 Anika had the privilege of attending the Newport Folk Festival performing with Valarie June and Madi Diaz as a member of the Berklee Instant Quartet, directed by Greg Liszt. With her Bluegrass trio The Anikas, she also performed in Seattle's 2023 Folk Life festival, one that celebrates music from across the globe.
Anika's passion and dedication weaves together the timeless melodies of the past while blending techniques of the present. Her welcoming and intimate performances invites listeners into a soundscape of enchanting melodies, lively grooves and compelling phrases.
